The incredible run as WWE Intercontinental Champion continues for Gunther, who has surpassed another milestone in his title reign. He is now the longest-reigning champion since the Honky Tonk Man’s legendary reign.

As pointed out by Fightful, he has reached 281 days as champion, passing Mr. Perfect’s 280-day reign as champion. The late great wrestler held the title from November 1990 to August 1991.

Gunther is now the fourth-longest reigning Intercontinental Champion since Honky Tonk Man. To begin the reign, Gunther defeated Ricochet for the championship on June 10, 2022.

He is four days away from reaching another milestone when he surpasses Greg Valentine’s 285-day reign in 1984 and 1985. Randy Savage is the second-longest reigning champion with a 414-day reign from February 1986 until WrestleMania 3, when losing it to Ricky Steamboat. The Honky Tonk Man still holds the record for the longest-running title reign at 454 days that lasted from 1987 to 1988.

Gunther will defend his title against Drew McIntyre and Sheamus at WrestleMania Goes Hollywood.
