The Netherlands and the United States of America kicked off the Qatar World Cup Round of 16 this afternoon, with Louis van Gaal’s side advancing to the quarter-finals, as goals from Daley Blind, Memphis Depay and Denzel Dumfries secured a 3-1 with for the three-time runners up of the competition.
It was a mature, sensible performance from the Dutch, and during the game, the cameras picked up a lovely moment after Blind made it 2-0 for his side.

As the former Manchester United defender swept home from a Dumfries low cross, he ran straight to the touchline to celebrate with his father Danny, an Ajax legend and now one of Van Gaal’s assistants alongside Edgar Davids.

Father Blind may have been bellowing instructions to his son amid the embrace, but it is a moment that neither will forget as Blind the player netted his second ever World Cup goal on his 98th cap for his nation.
