Watch: ‘Unreal’ scenes at BayArena as fans swamp the pitch after Bayer Leverkusen’s first-ever title triumph in Bundesliga history

History was made at the BayArena as Bayer Leverkusen and Xabi Alonso finally realized their year-long dream of lifting the Bundesliga title! 25 wins, 4 draws and zero losses later, Bayern Munich have been dethroned of the Bundesliga crown thanks to one of the most beautiful stories in the sport this year. A 5-0 win against Werder Bremen meant that Leverkusen secured the cup in utmost fashion.

As the final whistle blew to etch Leverkusen’s name in history, several hundreds of supporters flocked to the pitch in celebration. A significant portion of the home crowd filled the turf as flies, banners and smoke screens added to the joy of lifting their first-ever Bundesliga shield. On-field security could only watch on as fans overpowered their way to the pitch.

Videos recorded from the stands show the exhilarating rush of fans as cheers and celebrations drowned the atmosphere at the BayArena. Xabi Alonso, his men and all of his fans will be on cloud nine for days to come as they added their first-ever crown in their 120-year-old history.

Bayer Leverkusen thrash Werder Bremen to secure first-ever Bundesliga title

Xabi Alonso and co. only needed a win against Werder Bremen to mathematically secure the Bundesliga title. However, looking back at the trajectory of Leverkusen’s season, a simple win wouldn’t have done justice to their historic triumph. That was the case on Sunday night as Florian Wirtz and his teammates put on a show for the home crowd.

An amazing five goals were put past the Bremen defense as 5-0 read the scoreline at the full-time whistle. Victor Boniface gave his side the lead from the spot after the referee awarded a spot-kick in the 24th minute. His goal was followed by a screamer from former Arsenal man Granit Xhaka. The Swiss star unleashed a belter from long range, giving the opposition keeper no chance.

Following Leverkusen’s second, up stepped Florian Wirtz to give the home crowd one of the best displays this season. A hat-trick in just over 20 minutes saw title celebrations kick-off even before the official blew for full-time. As social media remains flooded with the dressing room celebrations and fans’ reactions of a lively Bayer Leverkusen crowd, fans can only hope for one thing – more of the same.
