Top 10 most expensive 2024 January transfers in Serie A

Cyril Ngonge was the most expensive signing in Serie A in the January transfer window, followed by Bologna‘s Santiago Castro and Roma‘s Tommaso Baldanzi.

The winter transfer window shut on February 1, and while results and performances in the second part of the season will determine the verdict on the January transfer activity, there are objective facts that can already be scrutinized before Serie A football resumes on Friday night with Lecce-Fiorentina.

Napoli secured the most expensive signing of the transfer window by signing Ngonge from Hellas Verona on a permanent €18m deal.

On paper, getting Hamed Traoré from Bournemouth at the end of the season would be even more expensive for the Partenopei, given that the 23-year-old can be signed permanently for €25m next summer. Nevertheless, he has only joined Napoli on loan for now, so he’s not among the most expensive signings of the January window.

New Bologna striker Castro who joined the Dall’Ara for €12m from Velez, follows Ngonge while Baldanzi, a new Roma signing, ranks third with a €10m transfer free.

Carlos Alcaraz was the 11th most expensive signing in Serie A last month. He joined Juventus on a €3.9m loan, but the Old Lady can sign him permanently for €49.5m at the end of the season.
