Salernitana Sack Paulo Sousa to Onboard Filippo Inzaghi

Salernitana are the second Serie A team to opt for a coaching change this season after Empoli, as they announced Tuesday to have sacked Paulo Sousa and appointed Filippo Inzaghi. The Granata are still winless after eight matches, having recorded five losses and two draws. They are coming off three defeats in a row against Empoli, Inter, and Monza, allowing eight goals and scoring none.

The Campanian club zeroed in on the ex-Milan legend as they mulled axing the Portuguese gaffer. He’s returning to the top flight after two campaigns in Serie B. He previously coached Bologna and Benevento with meager results. The latter were relegated in 2020/2021. He spent time at Brescia and Reggina afterward. The Amaranto had a good year but failed to register due to economic problems, which made him a free agent, but only late in the summer. He inked a seasonal contract, TuttoSport informs.

Paulo Sousa leaves the Salernitana bench after eight months. He was appointed in February to replace Davide Nicola and helped the team avoid relegation despite a difficult situation. However, he hasn’t been able to build off that following a summer overhaul and a transfer saga involving their biggest star Boulaye Dia. He collected two wins, five ties, and eight losses during his time in the dugout.
