Paul Heckingbottom will receive substantial pay-out if Blades stay up

Despite being dismissed from his position as Sheffield United’s manager last month, Paul Heckingbottom is entitled to a substantial bonus if the club manages to stay in the Premier League this season. This is according to a report by the Daily Mail.

The former Blades boss, replaced by Chris Wilder in their pursuit of a challenging escape from relegation, could potentially benefit from a Premier League survival clause in his contract. This clause is designed to stay valid on a pro-rata basis even after his departure. If Chris Wilder achieves the feat of keeping Sheffield United in the top flight, Paul Heckingbottom stands to receive the associated bonus which is deemed to be substantial.

Even the most die-hard Sheffield United fans think that stopping up this season is highly unlikely, but the doom and gloom could fade away quickly if the Blades can string a couple of wins together – starting with West Ham at home on the 21st of January and Crystal Palace away on January 30.

Over the Christmas period, United were close to picking up wins against Aston Villa on the road and a win versus Luton Town, but six points escaped their grasp and in the end they left those fixtures with just a single point won.

Meanwhile, Brentford’s injury crisis has resulted in poor form so they are now dangerously flirting with the drop zone. Everton have lost their last three Premier League matches, and although they are seven points above the Blades, they are still catchable. There are reports that Everton could get another points deduction as well.
