New Salernitana Coach & AC Milan Legend Admits Inter Milan Coach 'Was Always Better Than Me At Everything – But I Never Gave Up'

New Salernitana coach and legendary former AC Milan coach Filippo Inzaghi admits Inter’s Simone Inzaghi always bested him.

Speaking at the Trento Festival of Sport, via FCInterNews, the 50-year-old opened up about his relationship with his brother.

During their respective playing careers, both Filippo and Simone Inzaghi both enjoyed plenty of success.

The current Inter coach famously won the Serie A title with Lazio. This was the highlight of his time as a striker, but he had a long and well-regarded spell with the Biancocelesti.

But in truth, it was Filippo who had the more impressive playing career.

The 50-year-old won the Serie A title with both Juventus and AC Milan. But that’s not all.

Filippo also won the Champions League on two occasions with the Rossoneri.

He was also a regular for the Italian national team, winning the World Cup in 2006. Simone, by contrast, only ever managed to win three caps for the Azzurri.

Filippo Inzaghi: Simone Always Used To Best Me

As a coach, however, it has been Simone who has had the upper hand.

For Filippo there has been a succession of positions at different clubs.

The legendary former Milan striker first took charge of his old club the Rossoneri. However, it was a difficult time at the helm, coming during a very tough period for Milan as a whole.

Since then, Filippo has taken charge of the likes of Venezia, Bologna, Benevento, Brescia, and Reggina.

And now, the former striker has replaced Paulo Sousa as coach of the embattled Salernitana. He has a big opportunity, but also a massive challenge trying to keep the Granata in Serie A after a woeful start to the season.

Simone, by contrast, has seemingly gone from strength to strength as a coach.

The 47-year-old was in charge of Lazio for more than five years.

But unlike his brother, Simone arguably actually surpassed his playing career with the Italian giants as coach.

Having won the Coppa Italia and brought Lazio to the Champions League, Inzaghi then took charge at Inter in the summer of 2021.

The Nerazzurri reached the Champions League final last season. They have also won both domestic cup competitions in each of Inzaghi’s first two seasons in charge.

As Filippo reveals, however, things always came more naturally to his brother.

“Simone was always better than me at everything,” the new Salernitana coach admitted.

“But I never gave up, not an inch.”

He noted that “We used to have an attic, it had a fireplace that we’d use as a door.”
