These are decisive days for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s future at Napoli amid growing speculation linking him with a move to Barcelona. Gazzetta dello Sport claims the player’s agent will touch down in Naples today to discuss a contract renewal with Aurelio De Laurentiis.

Despite having three more years left to run on his current contract, Kvaratskhelia’s future at Napoli is up in the air. The Georgia international signed a five-year deal upon his arrival from Dinamo Batumi in 2022. But as he joined Partenopei as a relatively unknown entity, he’s among the lowest-paid stars at the club.

His representatives have been trying to land him a more lucrative contract in recent months but to no avail. Negotiations between Napoli and the winger’s entourage are ongoing, with showdown talks set to occur in the coming days. Both parties are reportedly eager to continue together, though there’s no agreement yet.

Lurking in the shadows is Barcelona. The Catalans have added the 23-year-old to their shortlist going into the summer transfer window. Napoli, on the other hand, couldn’t care less about the Spaniards’ interest. De Laurentiis is hellbent on extending Kvaratskhelia’s stay at the Diego Maradona Stadium.

Much will depend on the outcome of the crunch meeting with the player’s agent and the Napoli president. With the club failing to qualify for the Champions League, fears over the Georgian’s future in Naples have gained momentum. Kvaratskhelia’s requests are transparent – he wants €5m net per season to sign an extension.

The ball is now in De Laurentiis’ court.
