Manchester City midfielder Matheus Nunes needs time to adjust to the demands of Pep Guardiola and his new club. After arriving at City on deadline day from Wolves there have been glimpses of quality from the Portuguese international.

Following City’s win over Young Boys Matheus Nunes spoke with TNT Sports. He went into detail about the tactical demands of his manager. He explained how they differed from anything he had experienced before. He said: “I’ve learnt a lot from the coaches at the clubs I’ve played for, but I think there are things here that are very different from what I learnt.”

Nunes then went into further detail about the tactical shifts City employs. He explained: “There are a lot of variations within our game. Within a game, you can change tactics two or three times, the way you look at the opponent. If you have to play centre-back or right-back, you have to do it momentarily. So there’s a lot that’s new and you have to get used to it. But I’m also learning from a lot of great players here and that makes my job a lot easier.”

The Portuguese midfielder has made 12 appearances so far this season for the European champions. Nunes has contributed 2 assists so far and is yet to register his first goal for the treble winners. But the strengths of the former Wolves and Sporting Lisbon man can’t be measured in goals and assists.

There have been glimpses of what Matheus Nunes will add to Pep Guardiola’s side. His ability to carry the ball and technical ability will be a valuable asset to the treble winners.

Not all new signings adjust immediately like Erling Haaland, Jokso Gvardiol and Jeremy Doku. Some of them need time to adjust to their new environment. Matheus Nunes could become a key component of the Manchester City setup once he adjusts to his manager’s tactics and demands.
