France is the first side to qualify for the knockout stages after a Kylian Mbappe double secured a 2-1 win over Denmark.

With two wins from two, France has not failed to impress so far in this tournament and looks like a strong contender to win back-to-back World Cups.

They put in a solid team performance over a very strong Denmark, but it was their individual star Mbappe who stole the show. At the age of 23, the PSG forward already has two more World Cup goals than French icons Zinedine Zidane and Michel Platini.

Mbappe opened the scoring in the 61st minute, getting on the end of a Theo Hernandez cross and stabbing the ball past Kasper Schmeichel.

Just minutes later Denmark’s Andreas Christensen popped up in the box with a stooping header to make it 1-1. But it would be Mbappe who had the last word, arriving late at the back post to win it for France in the 85 th minute.

Mbappe now has two goals in this tournament and seven overall.
