Filippo Inzaghi was left disappointed after his Salernitana side suffered a 6-1 loss to Juventus after taking an early lead.

The Granata took the lead almost immediately after a Federico Gatti mistake allowed Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi to poke to ball past Mattia Perin, but they were unable to capitalise on their advantage, allowing the home side a way back into the match.

First half goals from Fabio Miretti and Andrea Cambiaso gave Juventus a 2-1 lead, which they added to in the second half through Daniele Rugani, Kenan Yildiz and Timothy Weah, leaving Salernitana worn out and frustrated come the full-time whistle in Turin.

Speaking to Sport Mediaset via TMW, Inzaghi first reacted to Salernitana’s painful defeat to Juventus in the Coppa Italia Round of 16.

“Going ahead like this leaves us with some regrets, but when you play against Juventus at full strength, changing 10 or 11 players, they are difficult to stop.

“They were having an excellent evening, we were coming off a wonderful period, but we came away from the Verona trip in less-than-optimal conditions. We took home a bad defeat, but the last two matches were sensational.”

He was asked if he’d recover any of his players ahead of the weekend clash with the Old Lady.

“On Sunday, two captains like Fazio and Candreva will return, they will give us strength and we want to give consistency to the league performances. Tonight, we couldn’t ask them to play on Thursday and Sunday, they are too important for us.

“I wouldn’t have wanted to change 10 players and the game system, it’s difficult even for those who play less, but I had to make a virtue of necessity. Tonight, there’s little to save except the playing time for those who had less. If this is Juve, we have to play the perfect match.”

Finally, Inzaghi discussed how Salernitana can try and stop Juventus in their coming league match.

“Since I arrived there have been few easy games, but we have also had some great performances, I’m not very worried about the opponent, then it’s clear that if Juve gets the match right there’s little that can be done, but the match against Milan shows that we can put anyone in difficulty.

“I don’t need to see Juve, it’s enough to understand that a player like Chiesa may not play. But we will have our stadium to push us to try to achieve a feat.”
