It’s Derby della Campania time, as Salernitana welcome Napoli tomorrow in what is expected to be a high-intensity encounter. Newly appointed coach Filippo Inzaghi is all game ahead of the return to Serie A following an emphatic 4-0 victory over Sampdoria in the Coppa Italia second round.

Inzaghi spoke at the press conference before the derby against Napoli, reviewing what it will take his side to muster their first win in the league.

“I’m starting to see what I hoped for from the first day. It takes a little time to understand the dynamics, but we have the right abilities and resourcefulness. Napoli are out of reach on paper, but the public will give us a great hand and anything can happen in football.”

“Perhaps a great performance is not enough to beat the Azzurri, but I want to see a top-level display. We owe it to the environment, to club, and to ourselves. A positive result would be something extraordinary. We believe in it.” (via TuttoNapoli)

Salernitana have had a disappointing start to the season, but Inzaghi has requested some patience.

“Looking back makes no sense. I tiptoed in to understand what wasn’t working and I discover something to do or improve every day. I didn’t think I’d enter a context without difficulties. All it takes is a little patience, I’m always more convinced of my choice and the strength of the team.”

“The support is exceptional, the club is very organized and it is up to us to understand how lucky we are. Perhaps this concept was not clear to many. I’ve been to many places, but I tell you that here there is everything to build something great, as long as the difficulty of the moment is recognized. Salerno, for its public and its reputation, needs people who fights.”

Napoli are unbeaten against Salernitana in Serie A. The Granata’s last league win against the Partenopei came back in November 2002 in Serie B.
