Andrea Di Caro, Deputy Director of Gazzetta dello Sport believes Roma should keep Daniele De Rossi beyond the summer as it’s ‘impossible to do more’ to deserve a contract extension.

De Rossi replaced Joé Mourinho in January and has won eight Serie A games from 11, including Saturday’s derby against Lazio.

The former midfielder’s contract expires in the summer and journalist Andrea Di Caro wrote on Gazzetta dello Sport that the Giallorossi must keep the 2006 Italy World Cup winner beyond the summer.

“It’s impossible to do more than De Rossi is doing,” noted Di Caro.

“He took a depressed Roma, bringing them from 9th to the race for a Champions League place. On Thursday, he’ll play in the Europa League quarter-finals against Milan, but it would be shortsighted to tie a future project to the qualification.”

According to Di Caro, Stefano Pioli also deserves to remain in charge of Milan. His contract expires in June 2025, and rumours have linked Antonio Conte and Thiago Motta to the Rossoneri job.

“In the most difficult moment, Pioli took the team by its hand, bringing it back to an excellent level of playing style. They have overtaken Juventus, Pioli has a year left in his contract, and he deserves to lead the ‘Fantasy Milan’ the club wants to build.”

Milan and Roma meet in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final at San Siro on Thursday. The Rossoneri also won on Saturday, beating Lecce 3-0 at the Stadio Meazza and moving nine points clear of third-placed Juventus in the Serie A table.
