Harry Kane reportedly makes initial Tottenham contract decision

It appears Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is in no rush to commit his future to the English Premier League club this summer.

David Hytner and Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian reported Wednesday that Tottenham offered Kane a new contract "that would significantly improve his £200,000-a-week terms," but the two added that the three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner "has no immediate intention to sign (the deal) and will certainly not do so while the transfer window remains open."

Per Sky Sports, the summer transfer window closes on Sept. 1.

Hytner and Steinberg echoed previous claims offered by individuals such as ESPN FC senior writer Mark Ogden and said that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy continues to insist Kane isn't for sale ahead of the upcoming season. The England captain who turns 30 years old on July 28 is out of contract after the 2023-24 campaign and has repeatedly been linked in rumors with German giants Bayern Munich.

Interestingly, The Guardian update notes that Kane has not yet met new Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou, who took over at the club last month. The forward is expected to report for Tottenham's preseason early next week roughly two years after he allegedly failed to report to the club on time amid rumors he could join Manchester City before the 2021-22 campaign.

"The player’s position is that every option remains open to him: leaving in the summer, staying for the season before going as a free agent and even extending his contract, although that is rated as the least likely," Hytner and Steinberg said.

Kane needs another 48 goals to break the all-time Premier League record held by Alan Shearer but also is looking to hoist the first significant club trophy of his professional career. It was reported in June that Manchester United likely won't make a move for Kane this summer because Levy doesn't want to sell his top star to a rival Premier League side.
