Former Serie A goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino hints that Fiorentina striker Andrea Belotti didn’t get along with the Roma coach but feels Il Gallo is ‘perfect’ for Vincenzo Italiano.

Belotti scored on his Fiorentina debut as a starter on Saturday in a 5-1 victory over Frosinone at the Stadio Franchi.

The Italy international has joined the Tuscans on loan until the end of the season and hopes to convince Luciano Spalletti to give him a chance for Euro 2024.

“I had no doubts he’d start like that and now he must keep it up, but he’s perfect for Italiano,” Sorrentino told Radio Bruno on Tuesday, as quoted by Calciomercato.com.

Belotti and Sorrentino know each other well having both played at Palermo.

“He could be the icing on the case for Fiorentina. He didn’t meet expectations in Rome, but apparently, he was not on good terms with the coach and the environment.

“Now, I see him smiling and I am confident that he will return to be the old Belotti we all know.”

Fiorentina visit Bologna on Wednesday in a rescheduled fixture from Round 21 when the Tuscans were involved in the Supercoppa Final Four.

“It’s an even game and I expect an exciting match, mainly because of the quality of coaches,” concluded Sorrentino.

Fiorentina do not have an option to make Belotti’s loan move permanent at the end of the season.

The Italy international scored just 10 goals in 67 matches under José Mourinho and left the Stadio Olimpico in January after making just one appearance under new Giallorossi boss Daniele De Rossi.
