Chelsea have endured their share of inconsistency in the debut season of Mauricio Pochettino, but one player that has shined brightly all through the campaign is Cole Palmer. The Englishman has been a major success story after his move from Manchester City and is doing so well that rumours of a new contract are already popping up.
The Telegraph recently reported that the Blues are expected to reward Palmer with a new contract which will also include a lucrative raise in his salary. This is even though the 21-year-old had only signed his first contract with the club last year when confirming his move from Pep Guardiola’s side.
Pochettino was asked if the club are discussing a possible new deal with the English winger and he replied: “He’s doing well. But he signed a five, six, seven-year contract, I don’t know. Then if the club believes we need to compensate or to reward him again, then the club is going to do that.”
The 21-year-old had signed a whopping seven-year contract with Chelsea when he joined the club last year, meaning that there is no threat that he could leave as a free agent anytime soon. However, it seems like the hierarchy at Stamford Bridge wants to make Palmer feel wanted and revered at the club by giving him a new deal, which will probably just be a case of raising his current wages, which are rumoured to be around £75,000-a-week.
