Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling reportedly rejected a £900k-a-week ($1.1 million) contract from the Saudi Pro League to remain in the EPL. A potential deal would have made the Englishman one of the highest-paid players in the Saudi league.

The England international, who had an impressive stint at Manchester City and Liverpool, signed for the Blues in 2022. He has seen a major dip in form since arriving at Stamford Bridge, scoring just 16 goals in 68 appearances for the club. This decline also resulted in his exclusion from Gareth Southgate’s England squad. He reportedly received an offer from the Middle East last summer, which he rejected to remain in west London.

Sterling had the opportunity to depart Chelsea in the summer, as the 29-year-old was offered a massive £900k per week deal from an unnamed Saudi Pro League team. Accepting the offer could have made him the third highest-paid Saudi league player, behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.

He turned down the lucrative offer as reported by The Sun, which could have seen him earn three times more than what he earns at Chelsea, which is £ 300,000 a week. The ex-Liverpool star signed a five-year contract in 2022, remaining in the English capital until 2027. Despite committing to a long-term future at the club, he has remained out of favor due to injuries and a loss of form.

Chelsea might be looking to offload Raheem Sterling next summer

According to some recent reports, Chelsea might seek to offload Raheem Sterling, as a part of their latest squad redevelopment project. The Blues’ new project revolves around young players, and the club could sanction the departure of a few senior players, including Sterling and Thiago Silva.

Sterling was one of the big signings made by Chelsea’s new owner Todd Boehly , in the summer of 2022. The club might have struggled over the past few seasons, but the former Liverpool star has been an important part of the team. He has been Chelsea’s highest scorer, only behind Cole Palmer, this season.

However, despite his importance, Sterling might not feature in the club’s long-term strategy. Chelsea’s recent focus has been on recruiting young talents as part of a new project spearheaded by co-owner Behdad Eghbali over the past 12 to 18 months.
