Mike Basich's snowboarding has long gone hand-in-hand with an exploration of the art surrounding it. His action self-portraiture, including the iconic image of his 120-foot helicopter bomb drop, remains some of the most impactful snowboarding photography, ever.

His new short film, made with Kyle Schwartz, lets us all in on his method of making and the evolution of his philosophy through the creation of lithographs in a completely handmade process, from cutting down a tree on his property to make the woodblocks to mixing the ink using ashes from the devastating 2020 fire at his home.

Basich made only 15 lithographs, honoring the impermanence of life and the existence of objects through process rather than result. The film is beautiful, both visually and in the philosophy that Basich shares.
