Vegas Golden Knights’ Jack Eichel given game misconduct for spearing Minnesota Wild’s Kirill Kaprizov
? Matt Krohn-USA TODAY Sports

One of the biggest names in the game had a premature to exit on Saturday.

Vegas Golden Knights forward Jack Eichel was given a five-minute major penalty, and a game misconduct, for spearing Kirill Kaprizov of the Minnesota Wild.

The incident ocurred in the third period of the game, when Kaprizov was trying to exit his own zone. Eichel pinched him near the blueline, and clearly caught the Russian forward in the midsection with his stick.

The Wild were leading the game, 1-0, at that point. However, Vegas came back to force overtime.

Eichel is having another solid season with the Golden Knights, with his production slightly up compared to last year. In 54 games, the Boston University product has scored 25 goals and 57 points, the first time since the 2019-20 season, while with the Buffalo Sabres, that Eichel is averaging over a point per game.

He did miss some time earlier this season, as Eichel needed lower-body surgery in January, which was later revealed to be a procedure on his knee, and ended up missing the next seven weeks while recovering.

In his three seasons with the Golden Knights, Eichel has scored 66 goals and 148 points in 156 games, scoring 26 points during last year’s playoffs in which Vegas went on to win the franchise’s first Stanley Cup.

The Golden Knights (40-25-8) are slowly finding themselves in a comfortable playoff spot after falling to the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. Vegas is up to third in the Pacific Division, four points behind the Edmonton Oilers for second, but are only one up on the fourth-place Los Angeles Kings.
