The rumored trade deal from yesterday appears to have finally gone through. The Avalanche added a little extra goaltending depth by acquiring Jonas Johansson from the Sabres for a six round pick.

The Colorado Avalanche have been sniffing around the goalie market for awhile. They want to make sure they have goalie depth for the playoffs, but Phillip Grubauer is the #1 man in net for the Avs.
Johansson is a 25 year-old net minder who is 0-5-1 this season for the Sabres. He has a GAA of 3.79 and a SV% of .884. The 6-5 goalie does cover a lot of net naturally and was a 3rd round pick in 2014. Judging him behind this Buffalo defense would be unfair to say the least.
The Rangers signed the 24 year-old veteran defenseman this past offseason to a one year deal worth $1.15 million. It was an insurance and depth move that really didn’t work out for either side. In 13 games this season, Johnson played admirably and through some pain. He notched 1 goal and 8 penalty minutes in limited action.
New York will place him on LTIR and gain some lift from his cap hit.
Jack Johnson had successful sports hernia related surgery yesterday. Expectation is he will make a full recovery by June/July.

Tom Wilson will be back tonight to face the Rangers and is vowing to be more careful with his physical play.
“At the end of the day, it can’t happen,” Wilson said Friday of his suspension. “I can’t be missing seven games. I can’t be missing one game. I’ve got to be in the lineup. … I just have to worry about helping the team win playing good hockey.”

Put me in the, “believe it when I see it” camp.
He’s been suspended now five times in eight seasons and it seems like he will always be more careful when he comes back. This last suspension was seven games long for hitting Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo high and hard.
