Maple Leafs captain John Tavares to miss at least two weeks with concussion, knee injury

Toronto Maple Leafs captain John Tavares will be sidelined for at least two weeks with a knee injury in addition to a concussion sustained during Game 1 of the club's series against the Montreal Canadiens, general manager Kyle Dubas said Saturday.

During the first period of Thursday night's game, a scary situation unfolded as Tavares fell to the ice and was accidentally hit in the head by Canadiens forward Corey Perry.

Perry said after the game that what happened to Tavares made him feel "sick to his stomach."

Tavares was stretchered off the ice and taken to a local Toronto hospital, where he underwent a CT Scan and MRI that both came back clear.

Dubas added that the 31-year-old was "thankfully cleared of all structural damage to his head, neck and spine, which was a major concern at the time of the incident."

Without Tavares, the Maple Leafs lost Game 1 of their first-round series against the Habs 2-1. Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday night.
