Devils Sign Son of Brodeur, Expected to Sign Son of Fitzgerald Next

 While scouring through the Twitter-verse (or the new Thread-verse), you might have noticed a familiar name pop up in relation to the New Jersey Devils. That’s because the Utica Comets signed the son of Martin Brodeur, Jeremy Brodeur, to a two-way AHL contract. Additionally, Utica signed Colin Felix, to a one-way AHL contract for the 2023-2024 season.

Brodeur (26) isn’t blazing any trails like his father did. Father Brodeur is a former first-round draft pick, a Hall-of-Famer, and a Stanley Cup champion with the Devils. Jeremey, however, was an unsigned goaltender until Thursday when Utica signed him to an AHL/ECHL contract. Brodeur has had previous stints in the AHL with the Binghamton Devils (his first stint in the Devils pipeline) and Providence Bruins in 2020-21 and 2021-22 respectively. His sample size isn’t at all large at North America’s second-highest professional level, although the numbers look nice. In four career AHL games, Brodeur totaled an 0-2-2 record with a 2.98 GAA and .922 SV%. In the 2014-15 season, Brodeur won the OHL Championship and Memorial Cup as a member of the Oshawa Generals. Brodeur joins Isaac Poulter while Nico Daws is expected to be out long-term following hip-labrum surgery.

Felix (24) is a Camden, New Jersey native. He spent the 2022-23 season in the ECHL playing for the Reading Royals. The 6-foot-1, 203 lb defenseman scored eight goals and 27 points in 72 regular season games. In 11 playoff games, he tallied two assists. Felix has one registered AHL game in 2021-22 skating for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

That wasn’t all the news, however. A league source tells Ryan Novozinsky of NJ.com that the Comets are also expected to sign 28-year-old F Ryan Fitzgerald, the son of Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald. According to NHL dot com contributor, Mark Divver, another one of Fitzgerald’s sons, Brendan Fitzgerald, is expected to be invited to the Devils development camp next week.

Ryan Fitzgerald spent 2022-23 with the AHL Phantoms. In 13 games, Fitzgerald scored a goal and an assist.
