The 3-5 Green Bay Packers didn't get Aaron Rodgers a shiny new wide receiver at the NFL trade deadline. That news made bigger headlines than the actual trades that happened.
It makes sense that it was noteworthy, too. The Packers went into this season knowing that their Super Bowl window dwindles as every year goes on and Rodgers gets closer and closer to retirement and an ayahuasca conference somewhere in some remote jungle.
This could be Green Bay's last shot to win a Super Bowl in the Rodgers era, and when Davante Adams asked out and was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders, somehow and someway general manager Brian Gutekunst felt comfortable going into this season with former undrafted free agent Allen Lazard as his No. 1 option at wideout.
Not to be outdone, Gutekunst drafted two rookies to play a massive role, and if they didn't pan out, at least the Packers had the barely functioning joints of Sammy Watkins and Randall Cobb on the roster.
If that doesn't paint a picture of a team that was in desperate need of an infusion of talent at wide receiver at the trade deadline, what would?
Still, the deadline came and went and no wide receivers were shipped up to Green Bay.
The internet, as consistent as ever, reacted to that news accordingly.

Green Bay is currently riding a four-game losing streak, and Rodgers does not look remotely close to the four-time MVP we've become accustomed to.
