The offseason needs for every NFL team

Rookie quarterback Kyler Murray flashed exciting ability, but he needs more support from his offensive line. The Cardinals have five pending free agents on the line, including both starting tackles. A thin Cardinals secondary allowed 7.5 yards per pass last season, and the linebacker talent is also lacking.

It might be time to move on from Devonta Freeman (3.6 yards per rush), but it remains to be seen if young Qadree Ollison is the answer. The Falcons invested heavily in the offensive line in last year's draft but still need help at left guard. Defensive star Grady Jarrett also needs help in the defensive front, especially after Atlanta announced that it won't re-sign Vic Beasley, and the defensive back depth has been lacking.

Marquise Brown was as advertised at wideout in his rookie campaign, but he also struggled to stay healthy. Lamar Jackson needs more help at wide receiver, even in Baltimore's run-heavy offense. The offensive line is excellent, but elite guard Marshal Yanda could call it quits soon. The Ravens were able to reload last offseason in the pass rush despite losing Za'Darius Smith and Terrell Suggs, but the potential loss of Matt Judon would create another hole.

Wideouts John Brown and Cole Beasley were great additions last offseason, but one more outside receiver could make this a complete offense for Josh Allen. The defensive line is talented but also long in the tooth, led by soon-to-be 32-year-old Jerry Hughes. Linebacker Lorenzo Alexander rode off into the sunset, creating a need at linebacker.

New head coach Matt Rhule inherits what could be a mess. Greg Olsen and the team have already parted ways, star linebacker Luke Kuechly shockingly retired and Cam Newton's future in Carolina is up in the air. Pass rusher Mario Addison's potential loss in free agency creates another hole. Offensive lineman Darryl Williams could leave in free agency, and the secondary has important free agents in James Bradberry, Tre Boston and Ross Cockrell.

Chicago's offensive line was plagued by injuries in 2019 and now must address Kyle Long's retirement, along with some depth concerns. The linebackers have long been the strength of the Bears defense, but Danny Trevathan and Aaron Lynch could depart in free agency. Safety could also be a need for the second consecutive offseason after HaHa Clinton-Dix revitalized his value on a one-year deal.

Andy Dalton deserves props for what he accomplished over his Bengals career, but it's time for the organization to move on. With the first overall draft choice, LSU's Joe Burrow is in play. Injury made 2019 a redshirt year for first-round draft pick Jonah Williams, but the team could use more offensive line help beyond him. Nick Vigil's pending free agency makes linebacker a need, and the secondary has been pitiful in consecutive years, allowing a league-worst 7.8 yards per pass in 2019. The Bengals have multiple free agents in the secondary that they'll likely allow to depart.

Cleveland has watched left tackle Greg Robinson blossom, but even if he's re-signed, the team needs more offensive line help. Bringing back Joe Schobert at linebacker seems like an easy decision, but that doesn't fix a defense that was gashed for 4.8 yards per carry. There is immense cornerback talent on the team currently, but the same can't be said at safety.

No team has more significant free agent decisions than the Cowboys, with Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper and Byron Jones all looking at big paydays. Dallas might not be able to afford the latter, making both cornerback and safety areas to address. This is all before considering that pass rushers Robert Quinn and Michael Bennett are free agents. Randall Cobb did a fair job replacing Cole Beasley in the slot for the Cowboys, but he's also on the open market.

Denver has a budding star in Courtland Sutton, but young quarterback Drew Lock needs additional weapons. The offensive line has rapidly improved in recent seasons but could still use more depth and competition. The turnover on the defensive side of the ball continues with Derek Wolfe, Adam Gotsis, Shelby Harris, Chris Harris and Justin Simmons among the players Denver needs to either pay or replace.

The midseason trade of safety Quandre Diggs is still curious, to say the least, and there has been speculation the Lions could also potentially move on from star cornerback Darius Slay. After giving Trey Flowers huge money last offseason, the Lions ranked second worst in sack rate and could lose defensive tackles Mike Daniels and A'Shawn Robinson. The interior offensive line remains a concern, with guard Graham Glasgow a free agent.

Can Aaron Rodgers get some help please? The 2018 draft included three wideouts, yet not one has truly panned out. Jimmy Graham has been a massive free agent bust at tight end, to boot. San Francisco's domination of the Packers offensive line in the NFC championship exposed other problems, and right tackle Bryan Bulaga is a free agent. Linebacker might also become a concern if the team moves on from Blake Martinez or B.J. Goodson, both free agents.

Bill O'Brien was busy fixing the offensive line and running back situation early last season when the secondary was a much bigger need. The pending free agency of Bradley Roby, Johnathan Joseph, and Jahleel Addae does make cleaning house more effortless. The trade of Jadeveon Clowney, as well as J.J. Watt's midseason injury, also exposed the team's lack of pass rush. Houston did well to plug-and-play Carlos Hyde at running back but will need to give him a new contract.

Colts GM Chris Ballard has done a nice job building the roster, but some of his early moves have finally come due with Jabaal Sheard, Devin Funchess and Eric Ebron headed for free agency. The hope is that Parris Campbell can become the No. 2 wideout after a lost rookie year, but the Colts can't count on him. Anthony Castonzo could retire, creating a huge void at left tackle, and it remains to be seen if Jacoby Brissett is the long-term answer at quarterback.

Telvin Smith's surprising retirement last offseason created a void that was never filled in 2019, and the defensive problems were compounded when star cornerback Jalen Ramsey demanded a trade. It's hard to believe Jacksonville would allow star pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue to leave in free agency but certainly not impossible. Fortunately Jacksonville has the draft capital to address all of these issues. The even bigger question this offseason will be whether the team allows Nick Foles to start under center or turns over the reins to the surprising Gardner Minshew.

The Chiefs love young cornerback Charvarius Ward, but they could lose Bashaud Breeland, Kendall Fuller and Morris Claiborne in free agency. The interior of the offensive line was inconsistent in 2019, and the team could move on from right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif to save money. There are also some important decisions on the defensive line, with Chris Jones due a huge contract one way or another and Emmanuel Ogbah also deserving of consideration despite an injury that ended his season early. Sammy Watkins is a prime cut candidate, and the free agency of Demarcus Robinson would make wideout depth an area to address behind Tyreek Hill and Mecole Hardman.

The Raiders move to Vegas likely wanting to make a splash. Replacing quarterback Derek Carr seems like a remote possibility, but this would be a good draft to get him weapons after Antonio Brown's demise prior to Week 1 last season. With Vontaze Burfict's Raiders — and NFL — future in doubt, linebacker is also an area to address. The Raiders have invested in the secondary during recent drafts, but Daryl Worley and Karl Joseph might leave via free agency.

Going into the offseason, all we really know about Philip Rivers' future is that he's moved his family to Florida. If the team opts to move on after 14 seasons with him starting under center, it'll be looking outside the organization. Melvin Gordon held out early last season and will probably need to find his money elsewhere, making it necessary for depth behind Austin Ekeler, at least. L.A.'s run defense was in the middle of the pack and will need to add depth, especially considering Thomas Davis' age (37) next season.

Left tackle Andrew Whitworth's play fell off somewhat in 2019, and his football future is uncertain. The Rams also struggled blocking on the interior. The cash-strapped team arguably has the best defensive lineman in the game in Aaron Donald but could lose Michael Brockers, Dante Fowler and Cory Littleton in free agency.

After "tanking" last year, Miami is in need at nearly every position. That starts with a long-term quarterback, even though Ryan Fitzpatrick is a serviceable stopgap. The offensive line doesn't have many building blocks, and former first-round pick Charles Harris headlines a pass rush that hasn't performed up to expectations. The secondary also needs an influx of talent.

Minnesota's secondary has deteriorated quickly, with cornerback Xavier Rhodes coming off a down year and safety Anthony Harris likely to test the market. Veteran defensive end Everson Griffen could also leave via free agency. After heavy investment in the offensive line, it showed improvement last season but could still use some help.

The elephant in the room is Tom Brady's future. Assuming he returns, the Patriots will still want to address his weapons, especially after first-round pick N'Keal Harry failed to develop in his rookie season. The offensive line also had depth issues last year following injuries, and the task will only get tougher with the retirement of acclaimed line coach Dante Scarnecchia. The secondary was outstanding in 2019 but also old, with Devin McCourty potentially leaving.

Will Drew Brees give it one more go? He has to negotiate a new contract if he does return for 2020, and backup Teddy Bridgewater is also an unrestricted free agent for the second consecutive year. The Saints have multiple free agents at cornerback with Eli Apple and P.J. Williams. Janoris Jenkins is also a strong candidate to be cut, and safety Vonn Bell doesn't have a contract for 2020. It wouldn't be a shock to see a new-look secondary next season. Similarly, the linebackers could be revamped, with A.J. Klein on the market. 

The Giants signed Golden Tate to replace Odell Beckham Jr. last offseason, but the 2020 draft is flush with wide receiver talent for them to add help Daniel Jones. New York spent a first-round pick in 2019 on Dexter Lawrence and would certainly like to retain free agents Leonard Williams and Markus Golden to keep up their pass rush. There are some interesting young corners on the squad, led by Deandre Baker, but the Giants need more depth and possibly a replacement at safety for free agent Michael Thomas.

New York could potentially lose two offensive linemen in Ryan Kalil and Kelvin Beachum, and the line was already an area of need. Wide receiver becomes an additional concern if the team can't find a way to keep Robby Anderson around. The Jets are likely to make a move on the defensive line after trading Leonard Williams last season and also need to surround star safety Jamal Adams with more talent in the secondary.

Few teams were more adversely impacted by injuries during 2019 than the Eagles. Carson Wentz ran out of weapons late in the year and will likely be throwing to new names in 2020 with Nelson Agholor a free agent and injury-plagued Alshon Jeffery a cut candidate. The secondary could also lose Ronald Darby and Rodney McLeod in the open market.

The Steelers have accumulated elite defensive talent in recent years but need to make calls on Bud Dupree, Artie Burns and Mike Hilton. Vance McDonald could also be looking for big money at tight end despite a disappointing season. It's clear that the long-term replacement for Ben Roethlisberger isn't on the roster, and at least a better insurance policy for 2020 would be a good idea given Big Ben's age and elbow injury.

The 49ers would probably like to keep Emmanuel Sanders around after trading for him, but a top wideout to complement Deebo Samuel will be in play if they're unable. Arik Armstead will likely be looking for a mammoth payday that the team might not be able to afford, and safety Jimmie Ward is also entering the market.

Seattle got a great boost when it acquired Jadeveon Clowney in 2019, but the hard part will be locking up the monster pass rusher. Jarran Reed has the ability to be nearly as impactful as he enters free agency. The linebacker corps is also getting older, relying on Bobby Wagner (30) and K.J. Wright (31). Offensive line remains a weakness for the team and could be compounded with George Fant, Germain Ifedi and Mike Iupati as free agents.

What do you do with a former No. 1 overall draft choice who led the NFL in passing but also threw 30 interceptions? Free agent Jameis Winston's check has finally come due, and it's unclear if Tampa Bay is willing to pay it. The majority of the team's pass rush is headed to free agency, including Shaquil Barrett, Ndamukong Suh and Jason Pierre-Paul. Running back Ronald Jones showed flashes in his sophomore season but still looked raw for a starter.

The Titans arguably have even more significant free agency decisions than Dallas after making the AFC championship game. It seems like a foregone conclusion that Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry will be brought back, but will those signings prevent the Titans from retaining their other talent? The other players they'd like to keep around include right tackle Jack Conklin and cornerback Logan Ryan, and they also need to improve linebacker depth.

Washington was a mess last season, but the team hopes veteran head coach Ron Rivera can fix the issues with his fan-friendly approach. Star left tackle Trent Williams held out the entire year, and former first-round offensive lineman Brandon Scherff is a free agent. Tight end Jordan Reed's football future is in doubt, and Derrius Guice hasn't been durable enough at running back for the team to plan around him. Moving on from cornerback Josh Norman, who played for Rivera in Carolina, is also a long time coming.
