Texans Lose Pair of Key Defenders For Two Weeks To Similar Injuries
Katie Stratman-USA TODAY Sports

Quarterback C.J. Stroud wasn't the only player who sustained a major injury during the Houston Texans' 30-6 loss to the New York Jets Sunday afternoon. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC , linebacker Blake Cashman and defensive back Tavierre Thomas are expected to miss a week or two due to their respective hamstring injuries.

The potential loss of Cashman will hamper the production coming from the Texans' linebacker unit as the team tries to make their final push toward the postseason. Cashman is in the middle of a career year, having notched 84 tackles, including nine for loss, five pass deflections, two sacks and one interception in 12 games.

"It’s tough, we lost a lot of guys today," coach DeMeco Ryans said. "It’s tough losing Blake, a guy we can count on defense, and he’s stepped in, he’s earned the right to play more snaps for us and with him going out, that definitely hurts us on defense."

The 2023 season has been an injury-plagued year for Thomas. Before going down with a hamstring injury against the Jets, Thomas missed several games after sustaining a broken middle finger in early September. Thomas has appeared in nine games, posting 51 tackles, two for losses and two forced fumbles.

Ryans announced Monday afternoon that the Texans will "see" how Stroud feels throughout the week, but his status for their Week 15 contest against the Tennessee Titans is uncertain. If Stroud is unavailable at Nissan Stadium, Davis Mills will likely start against the Titans.

"With our quarterback position – with Case [Keenum] and Davis [Mills] – we’ll see where we end up throughout the week," Ryans said. "Both guys have played a lot of football, and at this point and where we are, we just want guys who are going to put us in a position to win football games. Who can we count on to help us win football games? And that’s how we’ll decide."
