Steelers sign QB Trace McSorley to practice squad
Eric Canha-USA TODAY Sports

In case you missed it, the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to be without starting QB Kenny Pickett for a while

That means the next man up is Mitch Trubisky with Mason Rudolph being promoted to backup.

So with the Steelers needing a new emergency QB, the team has signed a man who can fill that role and give them a little insight seeing as he played for Pittsburgh's upcoming opponent:

From Pats to Pittsburgh

McSorely began his career with the Baltimore Ravens, being drafted in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent his rookie season playing as the third-string behind Lamar Jackson and Robert Griffin III. He remained with the Ravens for three seasons before signing with the Arizona Cardinals for two seasons.

His time with the Patriots began in April of this year, but was released as part of final roster cuts. The Bears signed him to their practice squad in mid-October but released him just over a month later. -Sophie Weller, A to Z Sports New England

Now, McSorley only spent a limited amount of time with the Patriots and likely won't bring much to the table in terms of advanced scouting, but given the QB free agent market and his familiarity with the Patriots, this signing makes a ton of sense in light of the Kenny Pickett injury.
