Steelers Secondary Set For A Special 2024 Season With Anthony Midget: 'No Better Place To Be'
Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

In late March, the Pittsburgh Steelers made a notable addition to their coaching staff by bringing on Anthony Midget as their assistant secondary coach. His arrival has injected a sense of excitement into the organization, with Steelers insider, Mark Kaboly, from The Athletic even suggesting that he might be overqualified for the role. The Steelers are confident in Midget's capabilities and are thrilled to have him as part of their defensive coaching lineup.

Midget recently sat down for an interview on the Vicktory Life YouTube channel, where he shared his aspirations and reflected on what it means to join the esteemed ranks of coaching with Mike Tomlin and the storied Steelers organization.

"You think about the Pittsburgh Steelers, you think about what they're meant for, a great defense. Coach Tomlin, what stability he has there. It's just been great. And just to be in the city for the short time I've been there, the fan base and the way they have that passion for football, there's no better place to be. A great organization.”

Midget is thrilled to call Pittsburgh home and has quickly embraced the city and its culture. Drawing from his successful tenure with the Tennessee Titans, where he served as the defensive backs coach from 2020 to 2022, he is eager to replicate that triumph with the Steelers.

Under his guidance, the Titans' secondary consistently ranked among the league's best in passes defended and interceptions. Midget's defense was particularly adept at forcing turnovers and shutting down opponents on crucial third downs.

Despite a brief stint in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Midget's passion for football led him back to the field as a coach. His coaching journey began in the high school ranks before transitioning to a role as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Virginia Tech, where he also played college football. He served as a defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator at Georgia State before moving on to Penn State and ultimately ascending to the NFL ranks.

Having previously contributed to the coaching staffs of the Houston Texans and the Titans, Midget is poised to bring his wealth of experience and coaching acumen to the Steelers as they strive for continued success.

Steelers Secondary Is Setup To Improve In 2024

The Steelers made headlines this offseason with a significant trade maneuver, parting ways with wide receiver Diontae Johnson to secure the services of defensive back Donte Jackson. Jackson's arrival has been long anticipated by the Steelers, who have been closely monitoring his progress. With high hopes pinned on him, Jackson's addition is poised to inject a fresh dynamic into the Steelers' secondary, potentially elevating the team's defensive prowess in the forthcoming 2024 season.

Amidst this transformative period, the emergence of young talent like Joey Porter Jr. adds to the air of anticipation among fans. Building upon his promising rookie campaign in 2023, Porter Jr. aims to solidify his place as a key contributor to the Steelers' defensive unit, further fueling excitement for what lies ahead. Additionally, as the team explores options in the upcoming draft, particularly in the cornerback position, there is palpable anticipation surrounding the potential infusion of new talent into the Steelers' defensive backfield.

With Midget involved, there is a sense of optimism within the Steelers organization about the future of their secondary. Midget's reputation for nurturing and developing young players precedes him, and his presence promises to be instrumental in fortifying the Steelers' defensive lineup for the challenges that lie ahead in the 2024 season and beyond.
