PFF says the Denver Broncos made the best day 3 selection of the 2024 NFL Draft
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Pro Football Focus thinks the Denver Broncos made the best day three selection of the entire 2024 NFL Draft.

PFF's Trevor Sikkema pointed out Denver's selection of Oregon Ducks wide receiver Troy Franklin as the best day three pick in this year's draft.

The Broncos selected Franklin with the No. 102 overall pick (Round Four).

From PFF: Best Day 3 Pick: WR Troy Franklin, Denver Broncos

Oregon wide receiver Troy Franklin ranked 30th on my big board as one of the top wide receivers in the class. I figured there was a chance the NFL wasn’t quite as high on him and that he likely wouldn’t be a first-round pick, but a fourth-round pick? That was a huge oversight from the league.

Franklin’s slimmer body type and lower weight profile are somewhat concerning, but his smooth play and vertical speed alone could have been drafted higher than Pick No. 102. He is reunited with his college quarterback, Bo Nix, in an offense that needed new playmakers.

Franklin is a former four-star recruit who was rated as the No. 3 wide receiver in the 2021 recruiting class.

The California native had a solid first two seasons at Oregon, but he really broke out as a junior this past season.

In 2023, Franklin caught 81 passes for 1,383 yards and 14 touchdowns while averaging 17.1 yards per reception.

Franklin should help the Broncos stretch the field vertically, perhaps profiling as a taller version of Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith.

Sikkema noted that he thought Franklin was a fringe first round player. The Broncos are getting excellent value by landing the former Oregon standout in the fourth round.
