Kendrick Green was thrown to the wolves in his rookie season in 2021. He was a later round draft pick who had a track record of being able to play the center and guard position. The guard position being his natural position. The Steelers after losing Maurkice Pouncey, thrusted Kendrick Green into the center spot. After a rough rookie season and the addition of Mason Cole he is now in a competition battle for the guard spot with Kevin Dotson.

Kevin Green Preseason Performance

So far in the 2022 NFL preseason Kendrick Green has had a rough performance. His preseason game against the Seahawks was not a terrible but not great either. This past week however, against the Jaguars was absolutely terrible. The Jaguars have a good d-line stacked with first round picks and would be a bigger challenge than the Seahawks. However, there is no excuse for his poor level of play. He is a smaller guy with shorter arms and does have issues with extending and getting a great initial push. Dotson came in and played 23 snaps and had a pretty good outing. Per Ray Fittapaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He did not allow a sack, quarterback hit or a pressure. Dotson has been a solid guard since entering the league, but has battled injury issues. Dotson did comment on his health, and said he feels good and he definitely looked better. Given no more setbacks from Dotson I fully see him being the entrenched starter moving forward.

Kevin Green definitely got chewed out and singled out during film review and deservingly so. He commented on it saying it wasn’t like he was treated unfair and mentioned it was what he needed to begin to improve. The future for him if his play does not improve big time he could be at risk going forward being a part of the Steelers long term and having any chance as a starter in this league.
