The greatest head coach of all time is a free agent after the New England Patriots parted ways with Bill Belichick last week. Although he'll have many suitors, ESPN's senior NFL insider Adam Schefter believes one team makes too much sense.
"I definitely think it could work if that's what [Belichick and the Cowboys] wanted to happen. I don't think it would be an issue," Schefter said on "The Pat McAfee Show." "Bill is the greatest coach of all time. If they decide to make a change, to me, he would be in play."
"Bill Belichick could work in Dallas if that's the path Jerry Jones wants to go down..

Before the Cowboys' devastating 48-32 loss to the Packers in the wild-card round of the playoffs, head coach Mike McCarthy's job felt secure. But that's no longer the case after suffering maybe the team's worst postseason loss in recent memory, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
"One playoff win in four years. He is entering the final year of his five-year contract," Rapoport said. "Certainly, moving on from Mike McCarthy is a consideration ... and the fact that Bill Belichick is still out there, I know he has a close relationship with the Jones', is certainly something that would have to be added to the equation."

Dallas has several important decisions to make ahead but deciding who its head coach will be should be at the top of the list. Schefter thinks time could be running out for Cowboys owner, president and general manager Jerry Jones.
"Jerry wants to win," Schefter added. "How many more chances is he going to have to win?"
Jones isn't the only one running out of time to win, however. Belichick, who will turn 72 in April, is still 27 wins away from surpassing Don Shula (328 wins) as the winningest NFL head coach of all time.
It's a feat Belichick likely wants to reach before retiring, which is why the two sides deciding to join forces makes sense.
Dallas has had one of the better rosters in the league for several years now, but it always falls short of expectations. Belichick could be the answer to helping the team get over the hump while giving himself a real shot at becoming the winningest NFL head coach of all time.
The Cowboys do have other big decisions to make this offseason, including potential extensions for WR CeeDee Lamb and LB Micah Parsons. The head coach must be the first domino to fall, and Belichick may prove to be the missing piece.
