Green Bay Packers Have Huge Opportunity For New Kicker
Denny Simmons / The Tennessean / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Green Bay Packers boast a formidable lineup, showcasing talent across numerous positions and highlighting one of the NFL’s most promising young squads. Despite their strengths, the team faces a significant challenge: their kicking game, which has been notably underperforming.

Last season, the Packers’ kicking woes were brought into sharp focus by rookie Anders Carlson’s struggles. Ranking 29th in extra point accuracy and 23rd in field goal accuracy for 2023, Carlson’s performance left much to be desired, signaling a clear need for a new kicker in Green Bay.

In a stroke of luck, Nick Folk, a highly regarded kicker with a successful tenure at the Tennesee Titans, is entering free agency, as reported by Tom Pelissero.

“Veteran kicker Nick Folk, who leads the NFL in field-goal percentage over the past four seasons, is expected to test the free-agent market, per source,” Pelissero wrote. “Folk made 29 of 30 FG attempts in 2023 with Tennessee.”

Folk’s impressive record over the past four seasons includes converting 123 out of 134 field goal attempts, boasting a leading 91.7% success rate among kickers during this period.

The potential acquisition of Folk would represent a significant enhancement for the Packers. At 39, Folk offers vast experience, a quality Green Bay has been missing since the departure of the legendary Mason Crosby.

With the Packers unlikely to start the upcoming season with Carlson, the pursuit of a veteran kicker like Folk could dramatically improve their chances for Super Bowl contention.
