Former Steeler says this player should consider position switch

Steelers offensive lineman Kendrick Green might be the odd man out by the start of the 2023 season. However, a former Steeler thinks he should change positions to save his roster spot.

Vince Williams, who played linebacker for Pittsburgh from 2013-20, tweeted, "Put him at fullback," in response to a video ripping Green's play.

Williams doubled down a day later tweeting, "I honestly do think Kendrick Green would be a ridiculously good fullback."

Green, who is still only 24, was the Steelers' 2021 third-round pick. He started 15 games at center during his rookie year, but after struggling, lost the job to veteran Mason Cole in 2022.

The Illinois product has since moved to guard, but Pittsburgh has added Isaac Seumalo and Nate Herbig in free agency to an already crowded room that includes Kevin Dotson and James Daniels.

Green is 6-foot-2, 315 pounds and would certainly have to lose some weight, but he tested well athletically at the NFL Scouting Combine, receiving a score of 82, the highest among guards.

For comparison, Derek Watt, who was the Steelers' fullback from 2020-22, is 6-foot-2, 234 pounds.

The job wouldn't be handed to Green as Pittsburgh signed undrafted free-agent FB Monte Pottebaum from Iowa who joins hybrid player Connor Heyward. But maybe Williams is onto something.
