Star cornerback Jalen Ramsey suffered a potentially significant injury on Thursday.
Ramsey was carted off the practice field after sustaining a knee injury.
Per NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe, the injury occurred when Ramsey got tangled up with wide receiver Tyreek Hill near the end of practice. While at first trying to stay on the field, he was taken to the locker room after meeting with trainers on the sideline.

He grabbed his left knee after defending Tyreek Hill on a pass play. Trainers evaluated him for a bit on the sideline then he hobbled on cart.
Jalen Ramsey’s apparent injury happened near the end of practice. He attempted to stay on the field initially the incomplete pass but after feeling his left knee for a bit he headed to the sidelines to be looked at by Dolphins trainers.

USA Today's Safid Deen assuaged some fears that the injury might result in a prolonged absence by noting Ramsey could have been carted off because the practice was ending, and it makes little sense to make him walk on his injured knee when he could be carted into the locker room for further testing.
There may be some emphasis on Jalen Ramsey "being carted off the field" after his left knee injury in #Dolphins practice today. It was at the end of practice, no use making him limp all the way back in.

Ramsey began his career in Jacksonville and was traded to the Rams three games into his fourth season. He's played in Los Angeles since 2019, winning Super Bowl LVI in February 2022.
The Dolphins acquired Ramsey in a bargain deal by sending a 2023 third-round pick (77th overall) and tight end Hunter Long to the Rams. The three-time All-Pro is penned in as the team's No. 1 cornerback. The Dolphins also have Xavien Howard and Kader Kohou on their roster as strong options should Ramsey miss time. Still, it's hard to overstate how much of a blow it would be for the Dolphins to lose him for an extended period.
In a conference with as many elite quarterbacks as the AFC has, Miami needs a strong pass defense to be able to build off its 9-8 record and wild-card appearance last season.
In that regard, Ramsey is vitally important to the Dolphins' success this season. Ideally, his knee injury is minor, and trainers are being cautious with a prized asset. Until more is learned, however, the Dolphins and their fans will have to hope for the best but brace for the worst.
