Detroit Lions Jerry Jacobs Says Secondary Will Be 'Pretty Dominant' In 2023
Patrick Breen/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Detroit Lions go into the 2023 season with a lot of promise . They ended 2022 on a high note and will likely be a trendy pick to come out of the NFC. In their own division, they currently sit as the favorites. One reason for this is the improvement in the secondary. This was a weakness for the team and GM Brad Holmes looked to fix it in free agency. He added Emmanuel Mosely, Cam Sutton, and CJ Gardner-Johnson to the team. Undrafted corner Jerry Jacobs made an appearance on Good Morning Football and talked about how he expects big things from this group.

Detroit Lions Jerry Jacobs On The Secondary

Jacobs is excited about the veteran leadership that the new players bring.

“We got guys like Cam Sutton, C.J. (Gardner-Johnson). Them veteran guys, they’ve been in the room these OTAs and minicamp and they’re helping us out a lot with just learning the scheme and playing in the NFL and making the defense better. Cam Sutton has been in the league for seven years, so getting every knowledge from him. Emmanuel Moseley, he’s coming back from an injury, but he’s still in there 24/7. … Chauncey, man. Chauncey, he’s gonna make the game more fun. I love his enthusiasm. I love the way he comes out there and talks trash. That just turns us up. Man, the guys that we added this offseason, I think that we’re going to be pretty dominant in the back end.”

Jacobs is excited to learn under these players and the unit now has a nice blend of young players and veterans.

Defense Looks To Take A Step Forward

In general the Lions defense is the unit that needs to improve if the Lions are going to be serious contenders. They have some nice young pieces but really needed some huge upgrades. While the secondary is improved there are still some questions. Aiden Hutchinson had a great rookie season but he will need some help on the defensive line if the Lions hope to pressure opposing quarterbacks.

Jerry Jacobs is excited about the Detroit Lions secondary. Fans should also be excited as this team goes into 2023 with a great team.
