Commanders HC Ron Rivera not worried about job status

Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera is very much on the hot seat and that pressure is only going to increase following the team's 45-10 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday evening.

Given his overall lack of success in Washington, as well as the fact the Commanders are trending in the wrong direction this season and have been completely embarrassed in back-to-back weeks, there is even speculation that his job could be in jeopardy before the end of this season.

But Rivera said after Thursday's game he is not at all concerned about the speculation regarding his job or his job status.

Said Rivera on Thursday, "I've told you before I'm not worried about anything. All I'm going to do is do my job and see how things go. That's the only thing I can do."

That might be the only thing he can do, but if he is being realistic he probably should be worried about it. 

After Thursday's loss the Commanders hold a 4-8 record and have lost five of their past six games. The only win over that stretch was against a two-win New England Patriots team (by only three points), while the past two weeks have been especially bad.

This past Sunday, they were lit up on the scoreboard by New York Giants backup quarterback Tommy DeVito. 

On Thursday, they gave up 45 points to continue a season in which they have had one of the NFL's worst overall defenses. 

New Commanders owner Josh Harris has said he wants to give his coaching a staff a full season to evaluate them before making a decision, but words and actions are two very different things. There is always a chance that Harris could see his team getting embarrassed every week – and in this case on national TV in a standalone time slot – and decide he wants to make a move.

Keep in mind that Harris and his ownership group had nothing to do with originally hiring Rivera and have no loyalty to him. 

The Commanders had a questionable roster from the start of the season and it only got worse at the trade deadline when the franchise moved starting defensive linemen Montez Sweat and Chase Young for future draft picks. 

With games against the Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys (again) remaining on the schedule – not to mention the Los Angeles Rams and a great defensive outfit in the New York Jets – double-digit losses seem to be inevitable for the Commanders.
