Chicago Bears: Moore Already Working On Developing Rapport With Williams
Daniel Bartel-USA TODAY Sports

With the NFL Draft in the rearview mirror, Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore is already busy working on developing chemistry with rookie quarterback Caleb Williams.

The 2024 NFL Draft is behind us. The Chicago Bears made their selections. One of those picks was quarterback Caleb Williams. General Manager Ryan Poles revamped the offense to give Williams a better opportunity to succeed.

Williams is now the face of the franchise. He is the leader of the offense and he must get off on the right foot with his teammates. He is already well on his way to doing that even before the draft began.

Days before the draft, Williams organized a training session with some of his soon-to-be teammates in Los Angeles. He worked with D.J. Moore and Keenan Allen. He also had Rome Odunze, who eventually became the Bears’ other first-round pick, ninth overall, attend.

Williams wanted to work with his top receivers to develop some chemistry before OTAs and camps began. Once those start, they will work more in-depth. In the meantime, some work can get the ball rolling.

The Chicago Bears added a lot of new players to the offense. They also have a new offensive coordinator in Shane Waldron. If they can get some work in now it will make things easier once Waldron executes his system.

Moore shares his feelings about working with Williams

Moore recently spoke to NFL Notifications about working with Williams. He gave his perspective. That is important since Moore was a big backer of the previous starting quarterback, Justin Fields. Moore was a vociferous supporter of Fields, publicly and privately campaigning for him with the media, coaches, and Poles.

This season, Moore is set to be the top wide receiver on the Chicago Bears roster. Yes, Allen and Odunze are also supremely talented. While Allen is a six-time Pro Bowl receiver, he is 32 years old and near the end of his career. Odunze, on the other hand, is about to embark on his. He still has a ton to learn.

That means that Williams and Moore must have chemistry. Moore says there is a lot of anticipation this season, but admits that it will take some time for them to be on the same page.

There’s definitely a sense of anticipation. It’s just going to take some time, maybe it’s going to be fast or might take some time. But I’m hoping it is fast.

With all of the additions to the offense, there are a lot of high expectations for Williams. In addition to Allen and Odunze, Poles brought in running back D’Andre Swift, tight end Gerald Everett, and offensive linemen Ryan Bates, Coleman Shelton, and Matt Pryor this offseason. Additionally, he drafted another offensive lineman, Kiran Amegadjie.

With Williams at the helm, many expect this to be one of the most potent offenses in the league. However, they have to temper some of those expectations. Yes, this offense should perform better than it has in a long time. However, Williams, just like Odunze, will go through some growing pains.

College isn’t the pros. The players are bigger and faster. They are more experienced so they don’t make the same mistakes college kids make. The defensive systems are more complicated. Williams will need some time to adjust. Given his talents, that time may not be very long.

Let’s hope the Williams/Moore connection becomes as good as the Fields/Moore was last season. If it is we will see many more victories.
