Chargers' Mike Williams, Chris Harris Jr. on COVID-19 list as close contacts

The 7-5 Los Angeles Chargers may be without their leading two wide receivers for Sunday's home game against the 4-8 New York Giants.

As Charean Williams noted for Pro Football Talk, Chargers head coach Brandon Staley confirmed Wednesday that receiver Mike Williams and cornerback Chris Harris Jr. have been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list as unvaccinated high-risk close contacts of receiver Keenan Allen, who tested positive for the coronavirus on Monday, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport (h/t Nick Shook).

This doesn't necessarily mean any of those three will definitely miss Sunday's matchup. Williams and Harris could be cleared to play as long as they test negative for COVID-19 through the weekend. According to ESPN and The Associated Press, Allen could also be eligible Sunday if he's fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, is asymptomatic for 48 hours, and can produce two negative virus tests at least 24 hours apart.

Per ESPN stats, Allen leads the Chargers with 86 catches, 124 targets, and 929 receiving yards. He's also contributed four touchdown catches. Williams, meanwhile, shares the team lead with seven touchdown catches and is second among Los Angeles receivers with 55 receptions for 854 yards.

Harris has one interception, 26 total tackles, and two pass breakups.
