Despite making a somewhat surprising decision to trade Jordan Howard over the offseason, the Chicago Bears appear to be in a good place without him.
The Bears drafted former Iowa State running back David Montgomery in the third round, trading up to select him No. 73 overall. They praised him during minicamp and are apparently even more excited than that.
Yahoo NFL reporter Terez A. Paylor spent some time at Bears training camp and shared notes about his observations via Twitter Tuesday. One such note was that the Bears are “in love” with Montgomery.
Offensively, the Bears are in love with RB David Montgomery, who brings a professional approach that is rare for a rookie. He’s a no-nonsense guy who takes football very seriously. The Bears love that, plus his receiving skills & make-you-miss. He will help this team immediately.

It appears Montgomery will have a big role in the Bears’ offense this year and will be a threat along with Tarik Cohen. Mike Davis, whom the Bears signed from Seattle, may be behind Montgomery when it comes to snaps.
In three seasons at Iowa State, Montgomery scored 26 touchdowns and piled up 3,507 yards from scrimmage. He averaged 4.7 yards per carry and 8.2 yards per reception during his college career.
