Watch: Video shows LeBron James hijacking Darvin Ham’s coaching job and drawing plays for Lakers during game
Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

LeBron James and former Los Angeles Lakers head coach Darvin Ham had a well-known turbulent relationship since Ham’s arrival. A video on social media showed James attempting to take over the coach’s job. In the video clip, James drew plays and gave instructions during the team’s timeout.

LeBron James is overheard requesting the team’s board as the players gathered against the Dallas Mavericks last year. Originally posted by a user, @legendz_nba, LeBron James took control over the next play.

The tension between James and coach Ham began early last season with disputed reports over playing style and roster. One particular incident occurred during the game against the Boston Celtics. James publicly expressed his disagreement after Ham benched him in the fourth quarter.

Ultimately, Darvin Ham got the sack, and James got blamed. Either way, the Los Angeles Lakers have to find a new coach who can handle the ego of one of the game’s greatest players without alienating him. The Purple and Gold needs to find a solution to this, among many other challenges, in the coming season.

Ty Lue emerges as frontrunner to replace sacked Darvin Ham to coach LeBron James yet again

The LA Lakers are expected to make a coaching announcement following the departure of coach Darvin Ham. The coach was fired after the team’s first-round exit at the hands of the Denver Nuggets. One name in particular has emerged as the leading contender: Ty Lue, the LA Clippers and current neighbor head coach.

Furthermore, sources say that LeBron James is very keen on Lue even though he is under contract with the Clippers. With the kind of influence King James possesses, it is more likely that the Lakers would consider him when making a decision. It remains to be seen if Lue plans to re-team with James.

Also, James’ future, as well as their contract situation, is another factor in the coach search as he might try to leverage the commercial and sporting value he brings to the team as well as the Lakers trying to entice him by giving him what he wants. Regardless, the Lakers back office has to do what’s best for the organization’s long-term growth.
