Suns Surge in Power Rankings Post Trade Deadline
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The trade deadline has officially passed, locking in rosters as teams embark on the final stretch of the 2023-2024 NBA season.

While the Suns weren’t as aggressive this year as they were last February, they bolstered their bench by acquiring Royce O’Neale and David Roddy.

With 12 wins in their last 15 games and a current five-game home winning streak, the Suns are on a roll. Despite Devin Booker’s absence, they secured a double-digit victory over the Jazz on Thursday.

This success prompted a notable rise in ESPN’s post-trade deadline power rankings. Previously ranked 14th, the Suns climbed to 9th, as McMenamin highlighted:

“It was a vindicating week for the Suns’ big three. They went to Brooklyn and Kevin Durant scored 33 points in a win against his former team; they went to Washington and Bradley Beal scored 43 against his former team; and then they hosted the Bucks and Devin Booker scored 32 versus the team that beat him in the Finals in 2021. And since a Christmas Day loss that dropped them below .500 they are 16-6 — most recently beating the Bucks in their first game at home after a seven-game road trip.”

Particularly noteworthy is the Suns’ record since Christmas Day, which stands at 17-6. Given that this has been their first fully healthy stretch of the season, it is an encouraging trend.
