The Minnesota Timberwolves are guaranteed to finish the 2023-24 NBA regular season at least as a No. 3 seed in the Western Conference, but FOX Sports’ Skip Bayless remains a non-believer in the Timberwolves’ chances to make noise in the 2024 NBA Playoffs. That’s also despite Minnesota having the best defense in the league with a genuine go-to player in Edwards and an all-time great defender in Rudy Gobert.
After seeing Edwards and the Timberwolves lose in a crucial late-season meeting with the Denver Nuggets in Mile High City on Wednesday, 116-107, Skip Bayless’ distrust in Minnesota only got more intense.
Here’s what Bayless said of the Timberwolves after Minnesota’s loss to Nikola Jokic and the reigning NBA champions.
“Even if they get Karl-Anthony [Towns] back, there’s just something missing in Minnesota to me. Every time I watch them, I just can’t believe in them. Even Anthony Edwards. He’s got some Jordan going on. I get that but it’s like he hadn’t arrived, maturity-wise where he’s the guy where he just says ‘get out of my way, I got this.’ They got all kinds of pieces, they are number one defensive team, but I don’t trust them in a big postseason game.

After back-to-back first-round exits from the NBA Playoffs, now seems like a perfect time for the Timberwolves to have that break out in the postseason. With Karl-Anthony Towns on the verge of returning and Anthony Edwards getting better and better, notwithstanding Bayless’ apprehension of Minnesota, the Timberwolves have plenty of reason to believe that they will make things happen in the playoffs.
