Massive Injury News For Bucks’ Damian Lillard Before Playoffs
Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

Damian Lillard is cautiously advancing in his recovery as the Milwaukee Bucks gear up for their upcoming Eastern Conference NBA playoff series against the Indiana Pacers.

After missing practice on Tuesday due to discomfort from a sore left adductor, the veteran guard returned to the court on Wednesday, participating in shooting drills and walkthroughs.

Bucks coach Doc Rivers shared an update on Lillard’s condition, expressing hope for his increased participation in Friday’s practice session. “Damian did all of the walk-through stuff today and some shooting. We’re optimistic about his progress,” Rivers said.

The team will take Thursday off, providing Lillard with additional recovery time before reconvening. Concerns over the availability of Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is also battling an injury, amplify the urgency of Lillard’s return.

The two-time MVP has been sidelined with a left calf strain, missing the last three games of the regular season, and has yet to return to practice this week. With Antetokounmpo’s status uncertain, Lillard’s presence could be crucial for the Bucks as they face a challenging first-round matchup with the Pacers starting Sunday in Milwaukee.

Lillard’s recent struggles were evident when he played against the Orlando Magic last Sunday, shooting just 2-of-14 from the floor after sitting out the previous game against the Oklahoma City Thunder due to his injury. The Bucks have significantly felt the impact of his absence, having recorded only one win in the nine games without him during the regular season.

Additionally, the Bucks are contending with other injury woes, as reserve guard AJ Green is also out of practice due to a sprained left ankle, further testing the team’s depth.

As the playoffs loom, Milwaukee hopes that its key players, particularly Lillard, will be fit and available to help steer the team through the highly competitive playoff landscape.

Coach Rivers remains cautiously optimistic, emphasizing the importance of readiness: “I’m assuming he will be more involved by Friday. I would be surprised if not,” Rivers added, reflecting on Lillard’s critical role in the team’s success.
