Indiana Pacers assistant coach Jim Boylen working with Team USA Select roster as an assistant

Indiana Pacers assistant coach Jim Boylen will be working with Team USA again in the coming months.

Team USA announced its Men's Select Team that will train with the 2023 FIBA World Cup squad in early August. There will be 14 players on the roster, and one of them is Langston Galloway. He was with the Pacers in 2022 training camp but was waived just before the regular season.

The group will be guided by Jamahl Mosley, who is the head coach of the Orlando Magic. There will be two assistants on staff for the Select Team, too, and they both have Indiana ties in Boylen and Purdue University head coach Matt Painter.

Boylen was the head coach for the Team USA squad that qualified for the World Cup from 2021-23. They went 9-3 in that stretch, which was enough to qualify for the event. Now, Boylen will help out in a different capacity.

Boylen was a consultant for the Pacers last season, and Indiana recently named him an official assistant. He will be behind the bench this season. He has previous experience as an assistant for the Pacers and was the head coach for the Chicago Bulls during his last NBA stop before Indiana.

"Jim's a guy that was a head coach in the NBA two years ago and is really excited about being with the Pacers organization," Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle said a few weeks ago.

Two current Pacers players — Myles Turner and Tyrese Haliburton — have played for the Select Team before. Turner also has experience with the national team during the 2019 World Cup, and this time around Haliburton will get his chance with the Team USA roster.

Boylen and Haliburton will begin their work with Team USA next week. "We are confident that our USA Men's Select Team will do a great job helping prepare the men's national team for the 2023 Men's FIBA World Cup," USA Men's Basketball managing director Grant Hill said in a statement.
