Golden State Warriors To Host Workouts For Several Veteran Free Agents, Including Ben McLemore And Kenneth Faried
Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Still fresh off their championship victory this summer, the Golden State Warriors have no intention of slowing down now. With Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green all healthy and ready to go for another round, the Dubs will be right in the mix for the throne out West.

But with only 13 roster spots filled, the Warriors still have a few spots available if they want to bring in more players. As it has been reported, one spot is being held for Warriors veteran Andre Iguodala, who is reportedly still on the fence about his playing future.

(via The Athletic):

It’s unclear whether Golden State will have one or two roster spots open in training camp. They currently have 13 players under a guarantee with an open invitation for Andre Iguodala to fill the 14th. But Iguodala has yet to decide whether to retire or return for another season, which would be his 19th.

There’s still no firm indication of which way Iguodala is leaning. If Iguodala does return, the Warriors theoretically have a 15th and final vacancy up for grabs, but the franchise could decide to leave it open and enter the season with 14 players, saving a chunk of tax on the league’s highest bill.

Whether Iggy decides to return or not, the Warriors still have space for at least one more addition, and the team already has a few names in mind.

In a recent article, The Athletic's Shams Charania dropped the latest update:

The Golden State Warriors are bringing in several veteran free agents for workouts this week, including Ben McLemore, Elfrid Payton, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Kenneth Faried, league sources tell The Athletic.

This has become common for the Warriors in the September lead up to training camp, as their established players filter back into the San Francisco facility and need some 5-on-5 action to regain a rhythm. Last season, Avery Bradley and Langston Galloway were part of the pre-camp scrimmages and earned a training camp opportunity to make the roster.

Miye Oni, Ty-Shon Alexander, Wesley Saunders and Jon Axel Gudmundsson are among the other free agents expected at the upcoming workout, sources said.

Golden State held a similar free-agent workout a couple of weeks ago, sources said, which included five-year veteran and former lottery pick, Shabazz Muhammad, nine-year veteran Solomon Hill, Tyler Cook and Kelan Martin.

Obviously, the Warriors are going to be okay no matter who they bring in. The guys they have now are more than enough to keep them competitive this season.

But if they can add another shooter, defender, or playmaker to their star-studded cast, it will only further bolster their chances at a repeat this upcoming campaign.
