Cavs Monitoring 'Sneaky' Second-Round Pick In Australia

As the Cleveland Cavaliers get set to wrap up their road trip with Game 2 of their mini-series against the Boston Celtics on Thursday night, a member of the wine-and-gold's front office is busy keeping tabs on the prospect side of the operation.

Cavs general manager Mike Gansey has gone overseas to Australia to see what's going on in National Basketball League (NBL), where Luke Travers currently plays for Melbourne United.

“We’re checking up on him via text, via call, checking his stats, watching his tape, I’m here, we’ve had other staff visit throughout the year,” Gansey said in an interview with The Australian (per NBL.com).

Currently, Melbourne is 12-3 at the top of the standings. Travers has played a big part in that, as the Aussie forward is averaging career-highs in points (12.3), field goal attempts (8.5) and rebounds (7.3) per game on .515/.353/.750 shooting splits.

What's also ironic is Travers is teaming with Matthew Dellavedova, a local franchise hero and fan favorite who also happens to be from "the land down under."

Cleveland selected Travers with the No. 56 overall pick in the second round of 2022 NBA Draft.

The 22-year-old has been a part of the wine-and-gold's summer league teams since he was drafted, including the championship club that took home the gold in July.

"He’s just sneaky," Gansey said. "Sneaky athlete, sneaky defender, sneaky shooter... We’re excited. He’s someone we think could be a future Cavalier at some point and that’s why we’re taking all the time to get him better.”
