Gansey played high school basketball in a suburb of Cleveland before continuing at St. Bonaventure and West Virginia from 2001 to 2006. He originally signed with the Miami Heat as an undrafted free agent in July 2006.
After spending four seasons playing both abroad and in the G League, Gansey joined the Cavaliers as an intern in 2011.
According to Wojnarowski, the 39-year-old "moved up quickly" and was eventually named the G League Executive of the Year in 2018 for his work with the Cavs affiliate, the Canton Charge.
