Bulls rookie Daniel Gafford on Jim Boylen: 'I don't like him a lot'

Typically, when a player is asked to speak publicly about their coach, they will offer some polite praise, regardless of their actual feelings. But Bulls rookie Daniel Gafford decided to take a different approach when he was asked about Jim Boylen during a Twitch stream.

"I'm going to answer this question, but I'm not going to read it out," Gafford said. "As a matter of fact, I will read it out. 'Do you like Jim Boylen?' He aight. I don't like him a lot, but he's OK. Got some things he can work on, got some things he can get better at as a person and as a coach. I'm not going to hate on him. I'm not going to hate the man."

It is no secret that Boylen has had a complicated relationship with his players since becoming the Bulls' head coach at the end of 2018. During his season-and-a-half coaching the Bulls, he has led the team to 39-84 record and the Bulls were one of just eight teams not invited to the Orlando bubble to finish out the NBA season.

But even so, it's rare to hear a player speak their mind so candidly, especially someone like Gafford, who is still trying to prove himself as a player. Gafford started just seven games for the Bulls, averaging 5.1 points and 2.5 rebounds over the course of the season. Based on his comments, it would not be surprising to learn that he is unhappy with his role on the team.
