At a joint press conference Wednesday, representatives of One Championship and Amazon unveiled the promotion’s new exclusive streaming agreement with Prime Video, including a schedule of planned events.
The first of those events, One on Prime Video 1, will take place Aug. 26 at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. Among the bouts announced for the debut card is a headliner featuring One flyweight champion Adriano Moraes, defending his belt against the man he defeated last year to win it, former longtime Ultimate Fighting Championship titleholder Demetrious Johnson. Moraes and Johnson were among the One Championship athletes present at the press conference, which also included atomweight champ Angela Lee, flyweight kickboxing champ Jonathan Haggerty and heavyweight contender Marcus Almeida.
“As the new, exclusive home of One Championship across the U.S. and Canada, we are thrilled to bring these unique, multidisciplinary events to fans,” said Marie Donoghue, vice president of global sports video at Amazon. “Martial arts fans are incredibly passionate and engaged, and we look forward to providing them with the best in combat sports as One Championship makes its prime-time debut on Prime Video this fall.”
Speaking for the promotion, One Championship vice president Rich Franklin called the move to bring One’s martial arts events to the approximately 200 million Prime Video subscribers in North America “a no-brainer.” Franklin also announced the Singapore-based organization’s plans to put on North American events at least quarterly, with those shows to be featured on Prime Video.
