Yankees' Jonathan Loaisiga to Undergo Surgery

Not ideal news.

Yankees reliever Jonathan Loaisiga will undergo surgery to remove a bone spur from his right elbow, as manager Aaron Boone told reporters on Monday.

Loaisiga will be shut down from throwing for three-to-six weeks afterward. 

This is a big loss for a Yankees bullpen, who will be without Loaisiga until August or September, according to Boone.

The righty has been on the IL since April 8. Despite beginning a throwing program on flat ground, he felt discomfort in his elbow, which prompted an MRI. As a result, he will have surgery and be out for 3-4 months.

Loaisiga had a 2.70 ERA across 3.1 innings this season. Although he posted a 4.13 ERA last season, he was stellar in 2021 with a 2.17 ERA.

The Yankees have been bitten by the injury bug so far this year, and Loaisiga was no exception. He will now be on the shelf until late in the regular season.
