Wyatt Langford gets the Major League Baseball roster call from Rangers’ brass

It’s rare to see a prospect go straight from college baseball to a pro roster within the span of a year, but Wyatt Langford isn’t like most other prospects.

The talented outfielder his .360 in the minor leagues with 10 home runs and 17 doubles, playing in 44 games. Then he kept it rolling during spring training this year.

He hit .375 in spring training in 56 at-bats, knocking out six home runs and driving in 20 runs. That was enough for the Rangers to realize they had something special on their hands.

“I’ve got to tell you, there was never any doubt in our mind,” Bochy said. “I don’t know if you ever had any doubt. But I just want you to know this is a really, really cool moment. You’re going to help us win, help us win a championship here. So congratulations on everything that has happened to you. I know it was just a year ago you were playing for the Gators and now here you are, so it’s pretty cool. Nice work once again.”

Wyatt Langford didn’t waste many words in thanking the Rangers’ brass for the opportunity.

“I’m excited to win some games,” he said.

As he stood up to exit, Young offered some final words of encouragement to the new Major League player.

“Awesome, Wyatt. Congratulations you’ve earned it, man, and this is just the beginning,” Young said. “The best is yet to come, so I’m proud of you. Great job.”

Wyatt Langford was the fourth overall MLB Draft pick in 2023, selected by the Rangers. He was a unanimous first-team All-American as a junior in 2023, helping lead Florida to the College World Series.

He hit .373 as a junior with 21 home runs, 28 doubles and 57 RBI.
